Alumnus of the Year: Fabrizio Saccomanni

Director General of the Central Bank of Italy. He will be awarded on the evening gala of 7 October in the foyer of the Aula Magna

He is a civil servant who has always performed his role with dedication, intelligence, passion and skill, following the Bocconi tradition.

Fabrizio Saccomanni is the Alumnus of the Year 2011, a recognition established by the Bocconi Alumni Association (BAA), which is assigned to the graduate of one of the five Università Bocconi schools (Undergraduate School, School of Law, Graduate School, PhD School and SDA Bocconi School of Management), who has characterized him/herself in sharing the Bocconi values of professionalism, entrepreneurial spirit, integrity, responsibility and open-mindedness.


Fabrizio Saccomanni's profile

Director General of the Central Bank of Italy since 2006, Saccomanni is a member of the Board of Directors at the Bank for International Settlements and Alternate to the Governor in the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. Born in Rome in 1942, Saccomanni graduated with a degree in Economics and Business from our university in 1966 with a thesis on The Limits of Fiscal Pressure (advisor Aldo Scotto) and he completed postgraduate studies in monetary and international economics at Princeton University. He began his career at Banca d’Italia in June of 1967 and covered a cursus honorum within the Banca d’Italia, immediately enriched by a significant international experience at the International Monetary Fund (1970-1975) and interrupted only between 2002 and 2006 (Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development). Before his current position, he held offices as head of the Foreign Department and managing director for International Affairs at Banca d’Italia.

The award of Alumnus of the Year is in its first year, a replacement for the Bocconian of the Year (since 1988) and Master of Masters (since 2007), assigned over the past 24 years by respective per-existing associations, now brought together in the Bocconi Alumni Association (BAA).
