Chapter Shanghai

BAA Shanghai was founded in late 2005 by Mr. Luigi Landoni (Intesa-San Paolo Bank). Mr. Mirko Bordiga became the Shanghai Chapter Leader in 2007 and has since then structured a program of both business events and social gatherings. Mr.Peter Schulten is the new Chapter Leader since September 2011.

Meetings are focused on the Chinese business environment and involve a series of entrepreneurs and managers:

 

  • Rick Yan - Founder and owner of 51Job.com, the largest Chinese job seeking website.
  • Winston Koh - Regional Consulting Director of HR Net One, a dynamic company specialized in Human Capital Search and Management, with 600 consultants and 350 partners spread in 8 countries of Asia Pacific.
  • Joe Tatelbaum - American Entrepreneur who built an empire during his 25 years in China
  • Shaun Rein - Founder and owner of marketing research firm China Market Research. Also opinionist for Bloomberg TV and other major news channels.
  • Alvin Graylin - Former Intel executive and founder of Guanxi, leader in mobile technology services in China. In the same occasion we received a visit from Rector Provasoli, Dott. Sironi and Dott.ssa Candotti.
  • Gwenola Coupe’ - Head Hunter at Stanton Chase.
  • Stefano Bianchin - CEO of Danieli China. The event was held together with the China Italy Chamber of Commerce and the Shanghai Fogolar Furlan.
  • Dario Rota - Director of the Italian Pavilion at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. A tour group of 12 ALUB members from Italy was also present at the event.
  • Francesco Sirna - CFO Citi China. The event was part of Bocconi’s International Think Tank program where Rector Tabellini was Keynote speaker.
  • Luca Vinciguerra - BAA member and foreign correspondent from China for il Sole 24 Ore. Mr. Vinciguerra was the moderator of the panel discussion during the International Think Tank event. 


Shanghai

History
Originally, Shanghai was a seaside fishing village and in time its gradual development led to it being granted County status on August 19th, 1291 during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). Hence this day became the anniversary of the founding of Shanghai. Today's Shanghai is a multi-cultural metropolis with both modern and traditional Chinese features. Bubbling Shanghai shows off every aspect of her unique glamour.

Geographical Area of Shanghai
Shanghai is the largest city of China and covers an area of 5,800 square kilometers.Shanghai, which means "above the sea", faces the East China Sea (part of the Pacific Ocean), and is bisected by the Huangpu River. Puxi contains the city proper on the western side of Huangpu River, while an entirely new financial district has been erected on the eastern bank of the Huangpu in Pudong.

People
Shanghai has a population of 18.7 million people, including 2 million floating population.

Language
The official language in China is Mandarin but distinct dialects are spoken throughout the country. English is not normally used except in major cities.
