BAA Runs with the Milano City Marathon
Sport and solidarity. The Association, now an Executive Charity Partner of MCM, promotes the support of a Charity Program non-profit organization.
The eleventh edition of the Milano City Marathon was met with great success and participation by athletes, volunteers and people simply curious about the event. This year’s edition, 10 April 2011, made records: more than 10,000 runners registered with a total of 10,203 participants (more than 500 Alumni) at the starting line at the Convention Center in Rho, with the finish line in Piazza Castello for a total of 42.195km.
Broad consensus was garnered this year as well for the 76 non-profits which took part in the Charity Program Project which saw BAA as a partner this year through the Relay Marathon (non-competitive four-person relay race). There were 1,280 relays with a total of 5,128 registered runners.
Fabrizio Cosi was the true promoter of the Association’s participation in the Charity Program. Here is what he had to say:
"I’m writing to thank you from the bottom of my heart for having agreed to take part in this event, edition number ZERO of the Bocconi Alumni Association at the Milano Marathon. We joined a little less than two months after it was launched, using all our energy and enthusiasm.
Everyone did their part, large or small, and the result was clear to everyone: support from Area Leaders and Gianfranco’s team, the exchange point the third, which was assigned to us all perfect, the volunteers, RadioBocconi, relay runners entering the track. We received compliments and acknowledgementsfrom the Milano Marathon Organization.
I experienced the entire race, 42km of sweltering heat. I met many alumni wearing our white shirts, not to mention those people who used our mini race numbers with the BAA logo (for all 10,000 athletes) to write their names and dedications.
200 meters before the end, the entire team almost 100 people joined us, along with an athlete with visual impairment, to bring Nick to the finish line. Nick is a young man with disabilities from the ABBRACCIO non-profit organization. The marathon is about this as well. The ABBRACCIO team, which I was a part of for this marathon, raised 21,000 euros in funds.
The city responded positively, drivers were patient, it was a good time for everyone, and the solidarity of the 1280 relays succeeded in winning over past grumblings. True to our mission, yesterday we were a positive force in society, capable of mobilizing our maximum energies. As far as I’m concerned, and if you agree, we can do the same next year".
